I think I speak for most people in the world when I say that we would like to be healthier and happier. Roughly one third of adults in the United States today are over weight according to research done by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This is a staggering number of people and it has increased a scary rate for the last 25 years. However, I am not just talking about just losing weight but about being a healthier person all around– from a healthy heart, body and mind. The federal government also estimates that Americans spent close to $2.5 trillion (roughly $8,000 per person) on health care related expenses last year alone. I think that being healthier saves us money, increases happiness, and increases our enthusiasm for life. An added benefit: the more healthy you are, the easier it is to get the cheapest health insurance. So I hope these tips help you be healthier, happier and save you some money.
Be active
Being active is one of the best things to do to get healthier. It does not mean you have to turn into a gym rat and spend all day every day at the gym it simply means to do more physical activities every day. This could include going swimming, playing tennis, joining a softball league or just going for a simple walk or bike ride. I also find that it is easier for me to work out when I enjoy what I am doing. So getting a hobby is a great way to be active. The important part is to start small a work your way into a rhythm that you can sustain over time. Because being healthy is about your habits and lifestyle more than being perfect for a week or two and then abandoning your program.
De clutter and get organized
A good way improve your mental health is to get your home or apartment clean and more organized. This can mean the physical appearance as well as say your finances or closet into a better system. You will notice that it is easier to think when you are in a cleaner environment. It also decreases stress levels to be organized. Like being active it is good to start small and work into a rhythm like getting a little binder to save receipts by month or getting another bookshelf or a shoe rack. These items can be a very great investment into your mental health.
Try eating some healthier foods
Try making a home cooked dinner that is lower in calories and fats, not that you eat junk food but not eating out so much is a great way to save money and get healthy. This is a fun way to get healthier you can start by planning a preparing a meal as a couple or family and it can be a lot of fun. If there is a farmers market it would hurt to stop by and see what is available and what things that you have not tried before.
